Seminar

“How does technology mediate our ways of knowing and understanding the world?”

Emerging technologies, which represent a shift in experiential media and embodied interactions, create opportunities for innovative artistic expression. In parallel, these technologies demand critical reflection on newly developing human-technology relations. The seminar ‘Capturing Immersive Narratives’ examined the mediating qualities of emerging technologies, including 3D scanning, volumetric video, and virtual reality (VR). It introduced students to an accessible technical workflow for developing VR experiences while periodically giving room for critical reflection. This reflective process was guided by questions and narrative was employed as an instrument for sharing experiences. The areas of inquiry that guided the questions and reflection were framed within the topics of artistic process, agentiality, materiality, aesthetics, and context. The seminar was hosted in the summer semester of 2023 and represents a collaboration between new media arts, fashion design, and the project InKüLe.
